Usage Guidelines



Zipper Hall Availability:
Herbert Zipper Concert Hall

  • Standard Hours of Operation: The Colburn School's building hours are 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, Monday through Friday; 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Saturday; and 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Sunday. Additional time required in Zipper Hall, the Plaza, or any other area of the Colburn School will be billed at $175 per hour (in addition to the Hall rental fees.) Hours will vary during the summer months.


Zipper Hall Space Usage:
Herbert Zipper Concert Hall

Use of Zipper Concert Hall at the Colburn School includes access to the Zipper Lobby, restrooms, and backstage areas before, during, and immediately following the performance.
  • Parking: Public parking is not available. There are adjacent public parking lots within the area.


Related Space Usage:
Herbert Zipper Concert Hall

Receptions will be permitted on the outdoor Plaza space at the rate of $325 per event. This rate includes use of the Plaza, Security for the Plaza, and the services of The Colburn School Reception Site Supervisor. All receptions must be handled through the Colburn Cafe. The User is required to return the Plaza to a clean and usable condition immediately following use. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.


Zipper Concert Hall Rental Rate:

The rate of $1,850 (or Non-Profit rate of $1,560) includes the following:
  • A four-hour block of time in Zipper Hall. Due to operational costs, additional time will be billed at the rate of $205 per hour.
  • Any additional rehearsal time, prior to, and/or on the day of performance, will be billed at $205 per hour.
  • The Colburn School will provide four hours use of Stage Manager services. Additional time beyond the initial four hours is included in the hourly rate for additional time in the hall.
  • The Colburn School will provide four hours use of one Usher. Additional time beyond the initial four hours and/or additional ushers will be billed at $28 per hour each.


Related Space Usage:
Herbert Zipper Concert Hall

Receptions will be permitted on the outdoor Plaza space at the rate of $360 for a three-hour block of time. This rate includes use of the Plaza, Security for the Plaza and the services of The Colburn School Reception Site Supervisor. There is a $200 permit fee to cover the cost of the permit application process, required by the Los Angeles Fire Department and Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. The User is required to return the Plaza to a clean and usable condition immediately following use. Additionally, all receptions at the Colburn School must be handled by The Colburn Café. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.


Client Promotional Materials:
Herbert Zipper Concert Hall

  • It is the responsibility of the user to plan, develop, and execute the promotional materials for activities scheduled in the Zipper Concert Hall, subject to the stipulations in the user contract, or usage agreement.
  • All references to this performance should list the venue as "Zipper Concert Hall at the Colburn School."
  • Materials should include the Users telephone numbers, not the Colburn School.
  • Events shall not be advertised until the contract or usage agreement authorizing the use of the venue is signed by both parties and returned.


Piano Usage:
Herbert Zipper Concert Hall

The School will provide a concert grand piano on stage. The piano can be tuned specifically for an event, at the additional charge of $180, if requested at least five days ahead of time. An additional piano can be made available at the cost $180 for one extra tuning.

*Please note the following policy regarding prepared pianos:

A prepared piano is defined as any activity involving affixing labels, marking, or inserting foreign objects into the piano or manipulating the strings other than through the keyboard. Before a Colburn School piano is prepared, approval from the Piano Technology Department is required. Following the rehearsal or performance, all labels, markings, and other objects (as approved by the P.T. Department) must be completely and promptly removed, leaving no permanent traces in the piano. Kawai KG5 Serial # 873010 is the designated piano for this purpose. Two weeks advanced notice of a prepared piano request is required. The User will pay $175.00 for moving the piano in and out of the Hall.

Insurance:
Herbert Zipper Concert Hall

A certificate of liability insurance naming the Colburn School as an additional insured for the amount of $1,000,000 is required. If you do not have your own, the Colburn School will provide liability insurance through their carrier at the rate of $225 per event.

Rental Deposit & Payment Schedule:
Herbert Zipper Concert Hall

A $500 deposit is required for all events, with a cancellation refund policy as follows:
More than 9 months notice prior to the event: $400 refund
6-9 months notice prior to the event:$250 refund
Less than 6 months notice prior to the event:non-refundable

Full payment is due 14 days prior to the event. Payment made less than 14 days prior to the event must be paid by cash, credit card or cashier's check only.

Smoking Policy:
Herbert Zipper Concert Hall

Smoking is prohibited in all the Colburn School buildings. Smoking is not permitted in the seating area or on stage. Also, food and drinks are not allowed in Zipper Concert Hall.

The Colburn School Promotions:
Herbert Zipper Concert Hall

The Colburn School reserves the right to take photographs and make brief audio and video recordings for promotional use by the Colburn School.
